At season's end, Anderson and Randolph were both recipients of the ACC's Sixth Man of the Year award. Anderson, the 6-6 guard/forward from Montross, Va., averaged 7.8 points and 3.2 rebounds per game, and was a key component on a Virginia team that put together one of the greatest seasons in school history. The UVa men won both the ACC regular-season and tournament titles and made a run to the NCAA Tournament's Sweet 16. Anderson's calling card was his energy. In a win over Clemson, Anderson had a reverse alley-oop. Later in the game, he threw an over-the- head no-look pass to Akil Mitchell for a dunk. Against Maryland, Anderson swatted the shot of guard Roddy Peters, which led to a Joe Harris three- pointer that turned the momentum in Virginia's favor. In an ACC Tournament semifinal, Anderson blocked the game-tying shot attempt of Pitt guard James Robinson in the final seconds to preserve the victory. Earlier in the game, he had been part of one of the most symbolic plays of the season when he and teammates Darion Atkins and Anthony Gill simulta- neously blocked the layup attempt of Panthers guard Cameron Wright. And both did so in reserve roles as second-years. PROVIDING A SPARK Justin Anderson And Faith Randolph Were Major Contributors Off The Bench A Year Ago, And Aim To Do Even More This Season
