MEN'S SOCCER 1989 CHAMPIONSHIP TEAM REUNION The men's soccer program welcomed back over 40 student-athlete alumni for a reunion weekend September 12-13. The 1989 NCAA Championship team was honored during the two-day celebration. On Friday, alumni and former head coach Bruce Arena gathered for a pre-game Social at Davenport Field then headed over to Klöckner Stadium to enjoy a 1-0 victory over the Virginia Tech Hokies. The 1989 championship team and Bruce Arena were honored onfield during halftime with a special Hoo Vision presentation and a warm reception from the crowd. Generous contributions from former players and parents provided the funds necessary to renovate a locker room at University Hall and provide Virginia soccer players an attractive, comfortable and functional area to prepare for practices and games, and a place to relax after workouts and competition. The brand new men's soccer locker room was named in honor of Coach Bruce Arena. On Saturday, the championship team was again honored onfield during halftime of the Louisville vs. UVa football game. Following the football game, alumni and coaches attended a reception in John Paul Jones Arena that was sponsored by the Virginia Athletics Foundation. It was a memorable weekend in celebration of their 25-year anniversary.
