EVENT RECAPS
The 2014 Celebration of Champions was held the
weekend of October 24-25. The festivities included din-
ner Friday evening on the Lawn and a special, halftime
recognition at the Virginia football game versus North
Carolina on Saturday.
The celebration honored VAF endowment and scholar-
ship donors who have invested significantly in UVa stu-
dent-athletes. Currently 52 out of the 316.6 scholarships
allowed by the NCAA for Virginia student-athletes are en-
dowed. The remaining scholarships are funded through
annual giving and additional endowment distributions.
The VAF endowment currently stands at $68 million.
At the dinner, donors were able to mingle with stu-
dent-athletes who are current recipients of these schol-
arships. VAF executive director Dirk Katstra opened the
evening's program and introduced a highlight video
from the past year. Men's basketball player Anthony Gill
then shared a personal statement of gratitude to the
donors for their support of the educational and athletic
development of all UVa student-athletes. Craig Littlep-
age also addressed the crowd and welcomed the guest
panel, which featured the five 2014 ACC Championship
head coaches – Tony Bennett, men's basketball; Augie
Busch, men's and women's swimming; Brian Boland,
men's tennis; Mark Guilbeau, women's tennis and Kevin
Sauer, rowing.
