INSIDE MICHIGAN ATHLETICS Getting To Know Women's Golfer Lauren Grogan Nickname: "A lot of people just call me Grogan, or Grogey." Favorite restaurant in Ann Arbor: "I'd probably have to say Blue Tractor." Best meal she can cook by herself: "I make a pretty mean chicken parmesan." Sports she plays besides golf: "Basketball. I love, love, love, basketball. I miss it like crazy. I played in high school and travel basketball growing up." Hobbies: "I just love hanging out with my family when I get a chance to see them. We just like to sit and watch movies a lot of the time." Favorite TV show: "Probably would have to say 'Scandal.'" Favorite movie: "I'll say 'Love and Basketball.'" Dream vacation: "I would actually love to go out to Colorado and just spend a week out there. I would love to just take in the sights and do some hiking." Favorite golf course she's been to: "The Bears Club down in Florida. It's a Jack Nicklaus course. It's probably the hardest golf course I've ever played. Michael Jordan and Ernie Els have houses on the course. It was super nice." Favorite professional athlete: "I'm from Columbus, and I love the Indians even though they aren't any good. My favorite baseball player was Omar Vizquel." Role model: "Probably my biggest role model is my dad. He's my best friend. He did all of my traveling with me for basketball and golf. My mom also made sure I always had clean clothes and food on the trips, so it was a team effort." Why she chose golf over basketball: "It was the hardest decision I've ever had to make. I think it just came down to the longevity of the sport from a competitive standpoint. Golf just seemed like the better option. Also there aren't many injuries in golf. Obviously the scholarship played a big role too." What she hopes to do after golf at Michigan: "Once I graduate I'm going to try and play professionally for a little bit and see how that goes. After my competitive playing days are done I'd love to coach. I don't want to be in an office. I want to teach people how to play and be around people and sports." Her overall U-M experience: "My experience at Michigan has been unforget- table for many reasons. I loved being a part of a team and the Michigan tradition. I'm basically leaving with another family. That's one of the biggest things I'll take away from my time at Michigan." Grogan, a senior who has posted six career top-20 finishes, has aspirations to play professionally.
