FOOTBALL RECRUITING overall player in the land. All three 2016 pledges have been clear: they committed to a school, not a coaching staff. Both Swenson and deWeaver are lifelong Michigan fans (though we've seen in the cases of Harris and Crawford that such a status may not mean much), and Harding has two former teammates already in Ann Arbor in 2014 wide receiver Freddy Canteen and safety Brandon Watson. All three are solid pledges, regard- less of the outcome of the 2014 sea- son. However, as their recruitments drag on, the Michigan coaching staff — whether it's the current personnel or a new regime — will have to work to keep all three in the fold and aug- ment them with additional talented prospects. ❏ Replacing The Lost WIDE RECEIVER GEORGE CAMPBELL Michigan may have lost a wide receiver in Campbell, the nation's No. 78 over- all player, but the Wolverines have a current pledge from a comparably ranked player in No. 89 national prospect Brian Cole, who is ranked as the No. 5 athlete in the 2015 class. Cole is expected to be a receiver for the Wolverines. If Michigan is seeking additional wide receivers, an offer to three-star Bloom- field Hills (Mich.) Brother Rice standout Grant Perry — a teammate of quarter- back commitment Alex Malzone — is possible down the road. DEFENSIVE BACKS SHAUN CRAWFORD AND GARRETT TAYLOR Michigan still holds a commitment from a talented defensive back, but No. 195 overall national prospect Tyree Kinnel of Huber Heights (Ohio) Wayne Erik Swenson of Downers Grove, Ill., the No. 9 offensive tackle and No. 70 overall player nationally, headlines a trio of early commitments in the junior class.
