INSIDE MICHIGAN ATHLETICS an education at U-M. "It was really important to get an education and go to college," he said. "Getting a degree was just always extremely important to me. Michigan has the best of both worlds because you have a qual- ity program, which produces just as many NHL players as OHL programs do and obviously you are getting a top-notch degree. It was just a great fit for me." Hyman's love of academics started at an early age, and he credits his high school and his hockey career for making him into the student that he is. "In high school my teachers were really great," Hyman said. " They allowed me to manage my junior hockey career and school. Junior hockey is pretty demanding so I had to miss some classes sometimes. "I got used to missing classes and catching up on work on my own. There are nights where you have to do work instead of going and doing things with your friends. "My high school was really good at preparing me to manage my time and got me ready for college. When I made the jump to Michigan, a lot of that stuff came easy for me. I was well prepared for handling my studies and my hockey schedule." Hyman is a history major enrolled in the College of Literature, Science and Arts. "I really like writing, and obviously in history you do a lot of essays," he explained. "Writing is one of my strengths. I like to write and learn about different things from different times. History just seemed like a natural fit." Many students claim writing as a strength, but Hyman can back it up. "I have two children's books published, and I'm working on another one," he said. "I really like to write, and it's something I hope I can continue to do for a long time." From the sound of it, Hyman will be able to do just about anything he puts his mind to. He's an author, was drafted to play in the NHL and has also won medals playing for Team Canada on the junior level. Hyman still has a few goals left while at Michigan. "When you are at Michigan the goal is to win," he stated. "Every year I feel like we have a chance to win everything that we play. This team wants to win the Big Ten and a national championship, and I think this team can do that." Hyman has written two children's books that were published and is working on a third.
