FROM OUR READERS the talent has been assembled. The players and coaches are working hard. The burden of the Michigan win- ning legacy embraced by Brady Hoke can only be satisfied by execu- tion on the field. Working hard is in the equation, but there is a missing ingredient that the current coaches and players are not capable of pro- viding. Michigan has been known to have the luxury of a successful athletic image bolstered by strong academics in the recruiting battles. Those advantages are slipping away as performance does not meet ex- pectations. The job of head football coach at a high-profile program is tough. It requires many qualities, many not related wholly to winning on Saturday. Brady Hoke accepted re- sponsibility for the stake fiasco at Michigan State. He had to know that his team had to tackle better, block better, run and pass better than they had in order to beat Michigan State. He simply did not know how to get those things out of his players. He is a good man. He has worked hard. He has many good qualities. He loves his job. His team's per- formance is simply too far below expectations. I just hope that we do not have to wait as long as Michigan State did to find the coach to right the ship. I am getting indigestion waiting. Go Blue! J. Richard Jaconette, M.D. Battle Creek, Mich. There's a season to finish, Dr. J., and then we'll see what the future holds. The man who hired Hoke is gone, and others are taking a close look at the same pro- gram you're scrutinizing. ❏ • We are so incredibly blessed to have this wonderful man leading our basket- ball program at Michigan. There aren't many people like John Beilein anymore who aren't all about self and getting their name in the headlines. He truly rep- resents what it means to be Leaders and Best, yet remains the humble guy who used to dig ditches in rural New York. How many coaches are like that anymore? llhcatsports • He's amazing. It's even more satisfying to see him succeed for the small por- tion of people that weren't calling for his head in that fourth year. His system won't work, live and die by the three, doesn't like rebounding, etc. I heard it all. jonein • Austin Hatch is one of the most impressive young men I've seen step foot on the campus at the University of Michigan. His attitude and perseverance are just awesome. So proud this kid is a Wolverine. jimromestinks From Our Web Site
