BY GREG WATERS E NTERING THE 2015 SEASON, Vir- ginia head women's basketball coach Joanne Boyle was looking for some help for fourth-year center Sarah Imovbioh in the paint. She has found it with first-year forward Lauren Moses. "Our team doesn't have a ton of size, so Lau- ren brings us more size," Boyle noted. "She's a very mobile post player. She's a worker; she's in the gym all of the time, learning the system, learning college basketball. "Learning this level of play has been a little bit of a grind for her, but she's going to find her way because she's a really skilled post." Imovbioh likes what she sees in the rookie's game as well. "Her outside game has been impressive," Imovbioh said. "She's a freshman post player and she can shoot the 15-foot jump shot, she can drive it, she can pass; just her all-around game is impres- sive." Moses was averaging 5.3 points per game through Jan. 18, but where she is having a real im- pact is shot blocking and rebounding. The 6-2 first- year was second on the team with 114 rebounds (6.3 per game) and led the Wahoos with 24 blocked shots (1.3 per contest). "At the beginning of the season, I was really focusing on being a help inside, rebounding, espe- cially offensive rebounding," Moses said. The Mount Holly, N.J., product called her first season as a Wahoo a great experience. "I've tried to work hard with the team and get better every day in shoot-arounds, practicing with the best of the best and playing with the best of the best on the court," she said. "My teammates push me every day to be better. There are practices where I don't play my best or games where I don't play my best, and I'm working on that." The biggest benefactor of Moses' play, Imovbioh, is both appreciative of her contributions and impressed with the rookie's play early in her career. "She's a great player, I love playing with Lau- ren," Imovbioh said. "She sees the court real well, she passes the ball well, and especially post-to-post passes. She can step out and make jumps shots, which forces defenders to go up on her and open the post area for me. "She really helps me boxing out and I can get to more rebounds because she boxes out." The result? Through Jan. 18, Imovbioh ranked 14th in the league in scoring (14.6 points per game), led the conference in offensive rebounds (92) and total rebounds (11.2 boards per contest), and was third in field goal shooting (61.9 percent).
