Thanks to Virginia's home in the Atlantic Coast Con-
ference and its rigorous academic environment, Cav-
alier student-athletes are routinely pushed to new
heights on and off the field.
The evidence is in the results. Since the start of the
2013-14 academic year, Virginia has found success as
teams, claiming five ACC titles and one NCAA cham-
pionship, and also as individuals with 109 athletes
honored as All-ACC selections another 49 who were
named All-Americans and one national championship.
They also thrived in the classroom, where the Wahoos
boast 86 ACC All-Academic honorees and 305 student-
athletes that were named to the league's Honor Roll.
Redshirt fourth-year goalkeeper Calle Brown of the
men's soccer team is a prime example of an athlete be-
ing pushed to success, although his initial response to
the dramatic increase in competition from high school
was not a positive one. After redshirting his first year on
Grounds, Brown was buried on the depth chart during
his second campaign and walked away from the squad
due to a lack of playing time.
The Leesburg, Va., native spent a year as a regular
COMPETITION
Goalkeeper Calle Brown, who noted that the talent around him at UVa helped him elevate his
play, was named the Most Valuable Defensive Player of the 2014 College Cup.
