Courtney Bartholomew ◆ Swimming and Diving The third‑year from Holland, Mich., was named the ACC Female Swimmer of the Week after she set five school and four ACC records at the Georgia Fall Invitational Dec. 5‑7 in Athens, Ga. She was part the 400 medley relay that won with an NCAA 'A' cut qualifying time and was just 0.33 seconds off the NCAA record. Her finish in the 100 backstroke was the second‑fastest time in league history, just 0.04 seconds off the American, U.S. Open and NCAA record. She was also part of the victorious 200 medley relay team, plus won the 200 backstroke and 200 individual medley. Thai-Son Kwiatkowski ◆ Tennis The UVa men were No. 3 in the preseason Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings, which were released in early January. It marked the school's eighth straight top‑five showing in the preseason poll, and Kwiatkowski led all Hoos at No. 4 individually after he reached the semifinals of the ITA All‑American Championships in October. Third‑year Ryan Shane also opened the new year with a career‑best ranking (No. 6), while classmate Mac Styslinger checked in at No. 47. Styslinger and Kwiatkowski were the nation's No. 37 doubles tandem, while Shane and second‑year Luca Corinteli were ranked No. 14. Tara Vittese ◆ Field Hockey The native of Cherry Hill, N.J., became the second Virginia first‑year in program his‑ tory to be named a first‑team All‑American and was also the fifth to be tabbed as the ACC Freshman of the Year. The rookie midfielder was also selected as a first‑team All‑ACC performer and was named both the State Player of the Year and the State Rookie of the Year by the Vir‑ ginia Sports Information Directors after leading the ACC and ranking in the nation's top 10 in points per game (fourth, 2.55), assists per game (sixth, 0.85) and goals per game (10th, 0.85). Meghan O'Leary ◆ Volleyball, Softball and Rowing The two‑sport standout and Jefferson Scholar was honored Jan. 25 for National Girls and Women in Sports Day. The native of Baton Rouge, La., started her athletic career with the Cavaliers on the volleyball team, where she competed from 2003‑04 before joining the softball squad from 2005‑08 and serving as a team captain in her final year. After graduating from UVa, she discovered rowing in 2010. Within a year, she joined the USRowing National Training Center and since has earned a spot on two U.S. Senior National Teams (2013‑14) and is an Olympic hopeful for 2016.
