O'Connor said. "Coman caught quite a bit for us down the stretch last season." Coman hit .294 (5 for 17) with four runs in the NCAA Tournament last year, and was 4 for 10 in College World Series. "We know Thaiss can catch and we know Coman can catch," Kuhn said. "They're consummate servers. As a catcher, you've got to serve your pitchers and to save me trips to the mound, and they both get that." With the losses of big bats such as Papi (.307 aver- age with 11 home runs and 56 RBI) and Fisher (.260 average with three home runs and 29 RBI), Thaiss will be expected to deliver extra-base hits and RBI at the plate in a DH role. Virginia also brings back the left side of the infield, Towns at third base and Freshman All-American Danny Pinero at shortstop, which O'Connor said makes sleeping a little easier than it was this time last year. "We have our shortstop back," O'Connor noted. "Going into last year, we're thinking we're going to start a true freshman at shortstop every day. There's a little uneasiness about that." Nothing makes O'Connor uneasy about McCar- thy, a preseason All-American, returning to anchor the outfield. McCarthy has been a mainstay in right for two seasons, but may move to center field for 2015. As a second-year, he batted .301 plus was sec- ond in RBI (49) and third in home runs (six). Virginia will field a new right side of the infield and two new outfielders. Rookies Riley Wilson and Adam Haseley are options for the two remaining The starting trio of, from left to right, third-year left-hander Brandon Waddell (10-3 record, 2.45 ERA in 2014), third-year left-hander Nathan Kirby (9-3, 2.06) and third-year right-hander Josh Sborz (6-4, 2.92) will lead the way for the Cavaliers in 2015.
