The NBA TIM HARDAWAY JR. AND TREY BURKE AIM TO IMPROVE Sophomore slumps aren't rare in the NBA, but New York's Tim Hard- away Jr. and Utah's Trey Burke aren't used to struggling the way they did in their second NBA seasons. Hardaway came back from injury April 3, but missed all seven of his shots and also struggled defensively for the reeling Knicks in a 101-87 loss at Washington. He did find his stroke in a 112-108 win at Atlanta April 13, going 9 of 17 from the floor for 23 points, but that came after a 4-of-16 showing in an 80-79 victory at Orlando April 11. Hardaway seemed primed for a breakout year. Instead, he was shooting only 38.6 percent from the field with one game remaining in the season. "I'm not going to sugarcoat any- thing. It wasn't the year I wanted to have. I know that, and I know the guys on my team know that as well," Hard- away, a member of last year's NBA All- Rookie first team, told The New York Post. "All you can do is go out there and give it all you've got and finish the season out strong."
