100 ■ THE WOLVERINE 2015 FOOTBALL PREVIEW DEFENSIVE LINE PLAYER BIOS POSITION COACH Greg Mattison is entering his first season as defensive line coach at Michigan and his fifth consecutively on the staff after previously holding the role of defensive coordinator for Brady Hoke from 2011-14. Mattison began his career as a high school coach, spending five years in the prep ranks in Wisconsin, before receiving his first college-coaching opportunity at Illinois in 1976. Mattison had his first gig coaching the defensive line with Cornell in 1977, and spent the next 18 years of his coaching career working with the line at Northwestern (1978-80), Western Michigan (1982-86), Navy (1987-88), Texas A&M (1989-91) and Michigan (1992-96). He also held coordinator roles with the Broncos and Wolverines. Mattison coached at Notre Dame (1997-2004) and Florida (2005-07) before a three-year stint with the NFL's Baltimore Raves (2008-10), coordinating the defense his final two seasons there before returning to U-M to work for Hoke.
