He is a big, physical cornerback who excels in press coverage — the style of defense the Michigan staff intends to run — and he has the ath- leticism to make up ground if he gets beaten off the line. DONTAVIOUS JACKSON 6-2, 238 • Houston Elsik Four-star talent, No. 36 player in Texas and No. 11 inside linebacker in the nation Jackson is simi- lar to Michigan's other linebacker targets in that he's a physical, fast player on the sec- ond level of the de- fense, but he's dif- ferent in one key way: size. He has the height to see over the line of scrimmage and comes with college-ready mass already built onto his frame. That should make him capable of contributing early wherever he ends up. Jackson visited Michigan for the spring game in April (along with teammate Chris Brown, a three-star safety also holding a U-M offer), and plans to return for the Ohio State game Nov. 28. JACK JONES 5-10, 163 • Long Beach (Calif.) Poly Four-star prospect, No. 9 recruit in California, and No. 3 athlete and No. 37 overall player in the land Jones may be a bit of a long shot for Michigan — Long Beach Poly ath- letes seem to end up at USC year after year, no mat- ter where it seems like they're leaning during the process — but he has ad- mitted that U-M stands out for him at this early stage of his recruitment. How things play out should de- pend on his official visit, tentatively planned for the post-season. He's a playmaker on either side of the ball, able to stretch the field as a slot re- ceiver or lock down one side of it playing cornerback. ❏ Early Season Officials Michigan's coaching staff has started the season with a strong group of official visitors to help the 2016 class live up to its potential. Oregon State Norco (Calif.) High quarterback Victor Viramontes committed to Michigan in June, but made his first trip to Ann Arbor for the home opener. He is a solid commit to the Maize and Blue.
