Some of those explosive gains have
come on gadget plays, which have
tripped the Irish up against Virginia,
UMass, Navy and USC.
"In practice … we are making up
gadget plays," Kelly said. "We are try-
ing to get our guys to do their job and
be disciplined. We're even enacting
some techniques to make sure that
guys run through their man and be-
fore they cut a guy loose."
The old adage is, 'Fool me once,
shame on you. Fool me twice, shame
on me,' but the Irish defense has now
been fooled several times against trick
plays for large gains.
