Notre Dame's red-zone woes con- tinued on the first possession of the second half. After a 15-play, 80-yard drive that reached the Temple 3-yard line, the Irish settled for a 23-yard field goal by freshman kicker Justin Yoon to increase their lead to 17-10. The Owls entered the game ranked sixth in the nation in red-zone defense, with opponents reaching the end zone on only 35 percent of such possessions. On the first drive of the game, the Irish marched 74 yards in 12 plays and six minutes to take an early 7-0 lead. The Kizer touchdown rush of four yards marked the first time a Temple opponent has scored a touchdown on the opening drive of the game.
