ake Forest is making tiny
strides in head coach
Dave Clawson's second
year at the helm.
It may not show by season's end
in the win-loss column considering
the Deacons are 3-6 entering a final
stretch that includes Notre Dame,
Clemson and Duke. They've had
a few bad losses already, including
50-14 to North Carolina and 30-17
to Syracuse, but they've also shown
some brief glimpses of hope, like a
24-16 loss to then-No. 11 Florida
State Oct. 3. Wake Forest trailed
late, but actually outgained the
Seminoles 357-329 in total yardage.
"The mood among fans is sur-
prisingly varied," said Les Johns,
publisher of DeaconsIllustrated.
