Bill Etter had 146 in a reserve role during a 47-0 win over Navy in 1969. Kizer 's big game upped his season rushing total to 318 yards, putting him on pace to become just the third differ- ent Fighting Irish quarterback to surpass 500 rushing yards in a season (Tony Rice did it twice in 1988-89, and Carlyle Holi- day did it in 2001). Joe Theismann (1968-70) became the first Notre Dame quarterback to rush for more than 1,000 yards in a career when he totaled 1,091, including bowl games. Tom Clements (1972-74) was next with 1,148. Since then, only Tony Rice has exceeded the 1,000-yard pla- teau with 2,049, including bowls. Here are the top five single-season rushing totals by a Notre Dame quar- terback: QB (Year) Att.-Yds.-TD 1. Tony Rice (1989) 188-934-7 2. Tony Rice (1988) 134-775-9 3. Carlyle Holiday (2001) 156-666-2 4. Paul Hornung (1955) 92-472-6 5. Jarious Jackson (1999) 140-464-7 MOVING? Let our customer service department know your new address! CALL US 1-800-421-7751
