UNDER THE DOME THEY SAID IT "Just the confidence I think more than anything else is prob- ably the big difference between the two. Everett was a great athlete, could do a lot of things, strong arm. But the makeup of the quarterback position in itself, I think leadership, com- mand, I'd have to give the nod to DeShone at this point." Head coach Brian Kelly when asked whether he is more comfortable with his current sophomore quarterback, DeShone Kizer, than he was in 2012 with then-sophomore Everett Golson at the helm of the offense "Our goal is to remain independent. I think it serves the university's purposes and our educational purposes to maintain our independent model. The things that could change that are ones that I think are generally understood. One is if our independence proved to be too great an obstacle towards participating for the national championship. That would be a consideration. "Secondly, if we didn't have a broadcast partner who wanted to support us and allow us to use football to promote the university as independent, that would be a challenge. Those are really the only two right now. We don't have any issues with building our schedule, especially in light of the ACC agreement. We don't have a problem with access to postseason." — Notre Dame director of athletics Jack Swarbrick during a presentation on UND.com on Notre Dame's desire to remain an independent "Stanford will have its own shot at removing the Notre Dame impediment Nov. 28 in Palo Alto. That has the makings of a playoff elimination game, if both win out until then. But after that, the Cardinal would likely have to win the Pac-12 title game as well. Notre Dame, which has no 13th game, would have all its hay in the barn on Thanksgiving weekend. "With one loss, the storied Irish will have a chance. For an outsider like Memphis, relegated to 13th despite a perfect record and a big win, there may not even be a chance at 13-0." — Yahoo! Sports columnist Pat Forde in his article after the first College Football Playoff rankings, in which he asserted that a level of brand name bias exists with the selection committee "Sheldon Day is playing off the charts. I mean, I don't know if he's getting enough credit for the way he's playing. Just an incredible game in terms of run stopping, pressuring the quarterback, all those things." — Kelly on senior captain Sheldon Day's play in 2015 TWEET OF THE WEEK @Who_GotJones94: "Let's complete this damn mission!"
