GAME PREVIEW: WAKE FOREST since 1953, this team is attempting to become the 12th to finish unblemished — unbeaten and untied — at home. Only two of the other 11 did not finish in the top 10: 1955 (5-0) — No. 9 finish in the As- sociated Press poll. 1964 (5-0) — No. 3 in the AP poll and awarded MacArthur Bowl, emblem- atic of a national title. 1966 (5-0) — Consensus national champs. 1970 (5-0) — No. 2 in final polls. 1973 (5-0) — Consensus national champs. 1980 (6-0) — Lost to No. 1 Georgia in the Sugar Bowl to finish No. 9. 1987 (5-0) — First AP top-20 finish (No. 17) in seven years. 1988 (7-0) — Consensus national champs. 1989 (5-0) — No. 2 in the final AP poll. 1998 (6-0) — After 9-1 start, placed No. 22 in the final AP poll. 2012 (6-0) — No. 4 in the final AP poll. A victory against Wake Forest didn't resonate nationally, but at Notre Dame it was another benchmark achieve- Notre Dame capped its 2012 home season by defeating Wake Forest 38-0, making it only the second year since 1990 that the Irish had finished unbeaten at home.
