VAF MEMBERS OF THE GAME The VAF Member of the Game program recognizes individuals who support the mission of the Virginia Athletics Foun- dation. For each home game, a donor is selected and receives on-field or on-court recognition, including an appearance on Hoo Vision. The criteria used may include donors who have a history of loyal support through consecutive years of giving, first-time donors or donors who contribute to the annual fund, facilities, Friends Of, Coaches 10 and the endowment. We also recognize donors who are longtime season ticket holders. Members of the Game for the Syracuse football game were Tim and Peggy Williams and their family of Charlottesville, Va. Peggy played women's lacrosse and field hockey at UVA. When asked why they sup- port VAF and Virginia athletics, they noted, "It is a way to give back to a program that meant so much to Peggy when she was a field hockey and lacrosse player at Virginia. The experiences she had on and off the field and the people she met, many who are still coaching and mentoring at the University today, make giving back an easy choice. We also give back in appreciation for all that the current student- athletes do not only on the field or court but also in our community. Whether they are organizing a run to benefit Special Olympics, build- ing a house for Habitat for Humanity, or reading in our elementary schools, the student-athletes are a part of our community and serve as outstanding role models for our children. We are honored to support the Virginia athletics program and the current coaches and student-athletes in all that they do both on and off the field." Members of the Game for the Georgia Tech football game were Margot and Joe Thompson of Christiansburg, Va. They support VAF and Virginia athletics because "University of Virginia student- athletes reflect so well the term, "student-athletes." We are pleased and proud to join with all VAF donors whose gifts support athletic scholarships for these young men and women. All aspects of our personal and professional lives have been enriched by our partici- pation in team sports, and what a pleasure it is to extend the same opportunities to UVA student-athletes as they develop life qualities like leadership, teamwork and sportsmanship. We imagine that Thomas Jefferson would applaud the Uncompromised Excellence of Virginia athletics. We are motivated to help the VAF achieve its challenging and uplifting goals. How are we doing towards reaching our goals? All we have to do is look at graduation rates, community involvement by our student- athletes and our standing in the Directors' Cup and Commonwealth Challenge. Thanks VAF, T.J. is smiling. Go Hoos!" Joe and Margot Thompson. Tim and Peggy Williams with children (left to right) Tommy, Emmy and Tyler.
