PREP PROFILES Detroit Martin Luther King junior cornerback Ambry Thomas finally received the scholarship offer he's pined for. While in the car with his cousin — Detroit Cass Tech junior safety Jay- len Kelly-Powell — en route to the Ohio State-Minne- sota game Nov. 7, K e l l y - P o w e l l made contact with Notre Dame de- fensive line coach Keith Gilmore. T h e t h re e - s t a r safety received a scholarship offer from the Irish as- sistant, and then handed the phone to Thomas. Gilmore wanted to offer both of them. " C o a c h G i l m o re t h a n k e d m e for being patient in the process," Thomas said. "Then he said they were offering me, based off my GPA and my football knowledge. "That's the offer I've been waiting on. I've been hitting up the coaches a lot for that offer. Ever since I visited the first time, I just liked it." Thomas referring to his "first" visit to South Bend is key, because it's indicative he's already seen campus multiple times early in his recruiting process. The 5-11, 165-pound four-star cornerback was present for Notre Dame's 50-43 win over North Caro- lina in October 2014, making the trip to campus at that time with his high school teammate and Irish class of 2016 wide receiver t a r g e t D o n n i e C o r l e y. T h o m a s a l s o a t t e n d e d Notre Dame's 38-3 blowout win over Texas Sept. 5 ear- lier this season. " E v e r s i n c e D o n n i e g o t o f - fered and we went up there for the N o r t h C a r o l i n a game last year, I've loved it," said Thomas. The junior standout lists three things he's seeking in a college and hasn't narrowed down a timeline for a decision just yet. "I'm looking for a good program — Notre Dame is real traditional, which I like," Thomas said. "Then a great school, and I'd like to get to know the coaches well. "I don't have a timeline yet, but I'm thinking about it soon; I'm not sure." Thomas also already holds offers from Ohio State, Michigan, Michigan State and LSU, among many others. — Jordan Wells Junior Cornerback From Detroit Lands Notre Dame Offer AMBRY THOMAS ✪ ✪ ✪ ✪ Martin Luther King Detroit Status: Offered Class: 2017 Position: Cornerback Ht.: 5-11 · Wt.: 165 Rivals Rankings: No. 2 player in Michigan, and No. 17 cornerback and No. 133 overall player nationally
