UNDER THE DOME Adams missed most of his junior season of high school after suffer‑ ing a knee injury. He ar‑ rived at Notre Dame as a three‑star running back, but has already impacted the 2015 Irish in his first season. Prior to being the fea‑ tured back at Pittsburgh, he had seen his playing time fluctuate from very little — a combined four snaps in road games at Clemson and Temple — to 30 in the blowout win over UMass. During spring practice, prior to Adams' arrival, Notre Dame had junior Tarean Folston (lost for the season after suffer‑ ing a knee injury in the season opener), Prosise and Greg Bryant (trans‑ ferred after Notre Dame ruled him academically ineligible for 2015) slot‑ ted for the top three spots in the backfield. The way the season has unfolded, Adams is suddenly No. 2 behind Prosise, a con‑ verted wide receiver. "Staying consistent and getting the plays," Adams said of the ad‑ justments he has made in college. "Staying focused and locked in. Basically, just trying to get better as a student of the game and learning from all of the other players: C.J., Tarean, even [freshman Dexter Williams]. "We all learn from each other and make our game better in any way that we can. Definitely being a better learner is a big thing." Kelly praised Adams for his pass protection skills, which the running back admitted were not polished when he ar‑ rived in South Bend. "I didn't work on that in high school," Adams said. "That was some‑ thing I needed to work on when I got here, and that's something I still need to improve on. It's more important than running the ball. "It's definitely some‑ thing I need to work on to make our team better and do my job to be the best overall player I can be." "He's a pretty sharp kid, a pretty smart kid," Kelly said. "He's savvy and understands things. He actually had a nice blitz pickup for us in the game as well.
