was ranked No. 87 nationally on Ken‑
pom.com in the preseason.
That's not too far behind Illinois
(No. 60 nationally), and the Illini are
expected to give the Irish a tough game
this season. Stony Brook also ranks
higher than ACC opponents such as
Virginia Tech (No. 130) and Boston
College (No. 157). The runner‑up up‑
set selection goes to Loyola Chicago,
with the Ramblers returning four start‑
ers from their 24‑13 team last season.
They're ranked No. 106 in the country
in Kenpom.com's preseason ratings.
Of the 10 non‑conference games to
open the regular season, eight fall in
this category. That scheduling should
allow for Notre Dame to start the sea‑
son with a strong record, while fine‑
tuning its lineup and style of play.
