Passes Away
Unexpectedly
Charlie Donovan, the 2015 Illi-
nois Gatorade Player of the Year,
signed a letter of intent to play
for Michigan in 2016, but before
enrolling at U-M he died sud-
denly Nov. 5.
A 30th-round pick in the 2015
MLB Draft, Donovan had de-
ferred his enrollment until the
spring semester due to a bout
with mononucleosis.
In his senior season, the short-
stop hit .484 with seven home
runs, 33 RBI, 64 runs scored and
42 stolen bases. According to
numerous local reports, he also
had a 4.36 grade-point average,
and volunteered at a homeless
shelter and with youth sports
programs.
Michigan baseball coach Erik
Bakich offered his "heartfelt
condolences" to Donovan's fam-
ily, and wrote on Twitter, "Char-
lie represented all the values we
hold dear at Michigan, and he
will always be a Wolverine."
