INSIDE MICHIGAN ATHLETICS MAIZE AND BLUE NOTEBOOK WRESTLING'S ADAM COON WINS SENIOR-LEVEL GOLD MEDAL Michigan junior heavyweight Adam Coon, last year's NCAA runner-up, picked up his first senior-level championship Nov. 6 in the Greco-Roman division at the Bill Ferrell International at the New York Athletic Club in Manhattan. While representing the Cliff Keen Wrestling Club, he pinned 2015 U.S. World Team Trials runner-up Toby Erickson in the finals at 130 kg. The tournament served as a qualifier for the U.S. Olympic Team Trials next April, although Coon was technically already qualified by winning a bronze medal at the Junior World Championships for Team USA. Coon is listed third nationally in the NCAA rankings and led the No. 3 wres- tling team to a trio of wins at the Northeast Duals to open their season. The Wolverines were victorious over Sacred Heart, No. 19 West Virginia and Hofstra Nov. 15, and will face No. 20 Oklahoma Nov. 22. U-M will take on 16 teams ranked in the NWCA preseason top-25 poll this year, including No. 2 Penn State and No. 5 Ohio State. IMPRESSIVE START Freshman Brienne Minor has enjoyed an auspicious start to her college tennis career. The rookie from Mundelein, Ill., went 5-0 at the ITA Midwest Regional Championships Oct. 22-27 to claim the singles title, battling back from a 5-1 deficit in the final set. A Michigan player has now claimed the singles crown in three straight years at the event and four of the past five. Two weeks later, at the ITA Indoor Intercollegiate Champi- onships Nov. 12-15 in Flushing, N.Y., Minor kept her success going, posting a 3-2 mark to finish runner-up in the singles consolation finals. Minor began her career 13-3 overall, for an .812 winning percentage. ALL IN THE FAMILY Senior women's basketball player Madison Ristovski squared off, for the first time in her career, against sisters Haleigh and Lola in the Wolverines' 88-61 win over Detroit Nov. 15. The three Ristovskis combined for 21 points on 6-of-20 shooting. Michigan's Madison had seven points in 26 minutes. MISCELLANEOUS NOTES • The men's golf team saw its fall season end prematurely when its Oct. 26-27 tournament in Dallas was called off due to rain and flooding. BRIENNE MINOR
