The VAF Member of the Game program recognizes those individuals who support the work of the Virginia Athletics Foundation. Included are donors with a history of loyal support, first-time donors and donors who contribute to the annual fund, facilities, Friends Of and the endowment. We also recognize donors who are long-time season ticket holders. Members receive recognition at the games including an appearance on `Hoo Vision. Members of the Game for the Duke football game were Barbara and Stuart Smith of Charleston, SC. Stuart's first college football game was in 1952 when Virginia beat VA Tech 42-0. He has been a UVA fan ever since. When asked why he supports VAF and Vir- ginia athletics, Stuart said, "My family has always been interested in and supportive of our educational institu- tions. As a native of Virginia, I grew up a fan of UVA and always felt that the Virginia sports programs should be a reflection of the overall excellence of the Univer- sity. As I now see the success of the sports programs, I feel that my support for the VAF is a great investment in the student-athletes, the University and the State of Virginia." Members of the game for the Virginia Tech football game were the Russell fam- ily of Roanoke, VA. Mike and Tracy support VAF and Vir- ginia athletics because, "It is the character of the student- athletes that extends well be- yond the field of play to their development both academi- cally and as individuals. Based on our experience at Virginia and through interactions with some student-athlete alumni, it is clear that this philosophy is a cornerstone of the Virginia athletics program and one that we proudly support in their pursuit of Uncompromised Excellence."
