UNDER THE DOME Irish student-athletes excelling on the field and in the classroom Justin Plaschka — Swimming The sophomore from Smithtown, N.Y., finished second in the 100 butterfly at the ACC Championships, posting a school- record time of 46.37 seconds. Plaschka also led off the team's 400 free relay with a 43.05 split, helping it to a second-place finish and another school record. In the process, the relay qualified to compete at the NCAA Championships March 24-26 in Atlanta. Molly Seidel — Track & Field The senior from Hartland, Wis., continued her tremendous year by winning both the 3,000- and 5,000-meter races at the ACC Indoor Championships Feb. 25-27 in Boston. Seidel, who captured the individual cross country national championship in the fall, set meet records with a 9:02.24 in the 3,000 and a 15:19.64 in the 5,000. Her mark in the 5,000 also checks in fourth all time in NCAA history. Barbara Sullivan — Lacrosse The fifth-year senior defender from Garden City, N.Y., was named the National Player of the Week by Lacrosse Magazine Feb. 16 after a strong performance in Notre Dame's 13-9 comeback win over then-No. 15 Stanford Feb. 13. The two-time first-team All-American's seven caused turn- overs in the victory tied a school record. She also contributed a game-high six draw controls and three ground balls. Karly Wester — Softball The junior outfielder from Huntington Beach, Calif., hit a team-high .480 to spearhead No. 21 Notre Dame's 16-3 start to the season. Wester also led the team in hits (36), runs scored (22) and stolen bases (14), and was second in on-base percentage (.500). Prior to the season, the team co-captain was named to the watch list for the USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year award. TOP OF THE CLASS
