SPRING SUPERLATIVES MOST CAREER STARTS Had right guard Steve Elmer opted to return for his senior year in 2016, he would have taken top honors here with 30, notably all 26 in his sophomore (2014) and junior (2015) seasons. 1. CB Cole Luke, 26 — Like Elmer, he started all 13 games in each of his last two seasons. He was able to finish them, too, which is no small feat. 2. DL Isaac Rochell, 25 — In reality, the strongside end should be listed with classmate Luke, but because he didn't open the game against UMass last year (but still played), he is listed with one fewer. 3. FS Max Redfield, 23 — Started 11 contests each of the past two years. 4. OLB James Onwualu, 21 — His career began with four starts at wide receiver as a freshman in 2013, but he was then shifted to defense and has made 17 starts at Sam linebacker. 5. OT Mike McGlinchey, 14 — His starting debut came in the 2014 Music City Bowl win versus LSU, and he answered the bell for all 13 starts at right tackle last season. Note: Also with double-digit start totals are senior running back Tarean Folston (13), shelved for most of last year with a torn ACL; fifth-year senior nose guard Jarron Jones (12), sidelined during the 2015 regular season with an MCL tear; and the junior tandem of quarterback DeShone Kizer and left guard Quenton Nelson (11 apiece). MOST CAREER RUSHING YARDS 1. RB Tarean Folston, 1,378 — Last season as a junior, he had only three carries for 19 yards before tearing his ACL in the opener. However, his 889 yards as a sophomore were 600 more than anyone else that season. 2. RB Josh Adams, 835 — He set the school's single-season rushing record as a freshman while averag- ing 7.1 yards per carry. It eclipsed the 12-game mark of 786 set by Darius Walker in 2004 and the 11-game standard of 756 established by Jerome Heavens in 1975. 3. QB DeShone Kizer, 520 — As a sophomore seeing action for the first time in 2015, he joined Tony Rice (1988-89) and Carlyle Holiday (2001) as the lone Irish quarterbacks to rush for more than 500 yards in a season. In addition, his 10 touchdowns were the most on the ground in one season by a Notre Dame QB. 4. QB Malik Zaire, 290 — Despite only three career starts under his belt, the senior has displayed his read-option skills and averaged 5.4 yards per carry. 5. QB Brandon Wimbush, 96 — In two mop-up appearances, his seven carries included a 58-yard score versus UMass. Note: Running back Dexter Williams appeared in seven games last season and totaled 21 carries for 81 yards and a score.
