WOMEN'S BASKETBALL 2006‑08. It is now 57‑1 versus ACC opponents since joining the conference three years ago. This is not necessarily an over‑ whelming outfit like recent Fighting Irish editions. In the final two regular‑ season games, Notre Dame mainly mucked its way through home wins against Clemson (0‑16 in the confer‑ ence) and Boston College (2‑14) by 19‑ and 12‑point margins — whereas more recent Irish teams might have crushed them by 30 or 40 points. Then in the conference tournament, after destroying Duke (83‑54) — its 11th straight conquest of the once vaunted Blue Devils — it dispatched in work‑ manlike manner No. 21 Miami (78‑67) and No. 17 Syracuse (68‑57) to continue adding to its expanding hardware col‑ lection. "It's definitely not that easy," junior point guard Lindsay Allen told ESPN afterwards about Notre Dame mak‑ ing it look too simple. "The teams get better and better every year and ev‑ ery single season it gets tougher and tougher, but it just speaks to the play‑ ers that we have, the coaches that we have … just the consistency they bring for us every single year is amazing." Taking the best shot from each op‑ ponent is anticipated, but it also has been galvanizing. "We have been used to having that target on our backs," senior guard and team captain Michaela Mabrey noted. "We focus on having each other 's backs."
