"I think the reason that we were able to get to this point is that it never really was a focus. I don't think you win 140 matches in the ACC over 10 years unless you can really focus on the job at hand day in and day out, which is what we've been doing." — Men's tennis coach Brian Boland after the Cavaliers' run of 140 straight ACC wins ended Feb. 15 against North Carolina in the ITA Indoor Finals (the Cavs had not lost to a conference foe since May 14, 2006, which marks the ACC's longest streak in any sport) "What an accomplishment for Filip. Less than a week after winning a silver medal at the NCAA Champion- ships, with all of the emotion of that, to come back and throw a lifetime best and earn a bronze is incredible. It shows how much he has developed as a competitor. He is a special one for sure." — Director of track and field/cross country Bryan Fetzer after redshirt second-year Filip Mihaljevic finished runner-up at the NCAA Indoor Championships and then third at the World Indoor Championships in the shot put "You start to remember all the good times you've had, and you start to realize how special these guys sitting next to you and on the court with you are, how much they mean to you, how much your coaches mean to you, how much you've learned from them, and just how much you've enjoyed your experience and your college career." — Redshirt fourth-year guard Malcolm Brogdon reflecting back on his time in Charlottesville immediately after Virginia lost to Syracuse in the Elite Eight March 27 HOO'S TALKING ◆ April 18-19, 1998 — With a 13-3 win over Duke and a 9-7 triumph over North Carolina, the women's lacrosse team earned its first ACC cham- pionship. The victories catapulted the squad into the nation's No. 1 ranking, which they held until falling to Maryland in the NCAA title game. ◆ April 23-24, 2005 — Led by tight end HEATH MILLER, a first-round pick of the Pitts- burgh Steelers, Virginia set a school record with seven selections in the NFL Draft. Linebacker Dar- ryl Blackstock (third round), guard Elton Brown (fourth), running back Alvin Pearman (fourth), defensive end Chris Canty (fourth), nose tackle Andrew Hoffman (sixth) and tight end Patrick Estes (seventh) rounded out the players who were tabbed in the event.
