and a lot of schools were looking at him to play a lot of different positions because he is such a good athlete. For what we do, he's a good fit. "We feel lucky to have been able to sign him, especially so late in the game. We feel like he'll be a great addition. It's always a tough thing when you sign more than one quarterback in the same class, but we just thought for us moving forward it was a necessary thing in order to have depth and competition. "Abramson is a little bit different," Ander- son added. "Maybe he's not quite the overall athlete, but I think he might be deceptively athletic and he's got a really strong arm. He's a really good kid, and he's extremely intelligent. "The two of them are a little bit different, but I think they both will be good leaders. That's one of the big qualities we look for in our quarterbacks, the ability to be a leader. "I think they'll work hard, and that's what we need them to do. They have to be able to come in, be prepared, learn the scheme and be ready to go when we need them." While the Cavaliers generally recruit this region hard, they were also successful fur- ther away, signing a pair of players from Florida and three from Georgia, while also bringing in their first Hawaiian recruit in the modern era. From the Sunshine State, Virginia signed 6-0, 168-pound defensive back Deedrick Daniels out of Tampa (Fla.) Chamberlain and 6-3, 308-pound Trysten Hill, a Lee (Fla.) Suwannee two-way lineman who was named a Florida Class 5A first-team all- state honoree on the offensive line. He was credited with 45 tackles, 11 stops for loss and 5.5 sacks, and helped his team to the state title. From the Peach State, UVA signed a pair of quality three-star recruits in 6-3, 235-pound Lilburn (Ga.) Parkview outside linebacker Juwan Moye and 6-3, 205-pound Lithonia (Ga.) Wesleyan safety Jordan Mack. They also added 6-3, 225-pound Lawrenceville (Ga.) Collins Hill inside line- backer Robert Snyder. From Honolulu following his Mormon mis- sion, UVA will add Wayne Taulapapa, a 5-11, 200-pound running back from Punahou High who ran for 3,279 yards and 52 touchdowns as a three-year starter. Allentown (Pa.) Parkland dual-threat quarterback Devante Cross — the Key- stone State's Mr. Football in 2015 — was Mendenhall's first commit after the head coach took over in Charlottesville.
