technique and looking to contribute to the team's offense. As Will says, "I knew that I would be starting at the bottom, but I chose UVA because I wanted to be a contribu- tor in a big-time ACC program." Sherrill had an opportunity to show the results of his extra training under head coach Tony Bennett in 2009. He describes the coach- ing transition as rejuvenating, anticipating Bennett's ability to build a strong, last- ing program. His confidence in Bennett's coaching in terms of his knowledge of the game, his strategies and his ability to teach the game drove the team to work harder and understand their potential for the coming seasons. Much of Sherrill's de - velopment on and off the court was influ- enced by Bennett's integrity and character, both of which were clearly reflected in his coaching style and among the athletes he recruited to represent Virginia. Following graduation, Sherrill began his career at Credit Suisse in New York City as part of the Capital Markets group, later shifting to investment banking. In Janu - ary 2015, he began working at the private equity fund of Kelso & Company, where he focuses on the consumer products and housing sectors. In his professional career, Sherrill has drawn upon his experiences and skills developed as a student-athlete at Virginia. He continuously relies on his ability to work effectively in teams as well as manage and learn from any failures and criticisms that come his way. While his time as a Virginia basketball player has ended, Sherrill remains competitive with his co-workers, many of who are UVA and ACC graduates. When asked about his involvement with the VAF, Sherrill responded saying, "Play - ing basketball at Virginia is the most im- portant thing I've done in my life in terms of shaping who I am, so giving back is a no brainer." His continued support for Virginia athletics and the University as a whole speaks to his experiences as a student-athlete and the incredible coaches, staff, and students he was surrounded by during his four years at the University. Sherrill believes that UVA's athletics de - partment is an important part of the school in terms of school pride and student inter- est in athletics. He notes, "A good athletics program is something UVA deserves and should have, so I'm in favor of supporting the program in any way I can."
