Cavalier Corner: For people who aren't familiar
with crew, what is the responsibility of the person
in the bow seat?
Casto: "I think the person in the bow seat in
general has the same responsibility as everyone
else. Get your blade in the water and pull as hard
[as you can] down the course. That's no different
from where you sit in the boat.
"When you're in the bow seat you're more re-
sponsible for how the boat is set up. You're the
first one who hits anything like a wall of wind so
you have to be prepared for that. In general, it's
like every other seat. Row as hard and as long as
you can."
