FOOTBALL RECRUITING
IMPACTING
THE RECRUITING CLASS
The Fighting Irish coaching staff has
had great success in recent seasons
turning Irish Invasion visitors into
committed players, and ultimately,
signees. Nine members of Notre
Dame's 2016 recruiting class attended
last June's Irish Invasion.
Notre Dame also landed three com-
mitments from rising juniors that are
now lynchpins of the Irish's 2017 class
— Cypress (Texas) Cy-Fair four-star
tight end Brock Wright, Kmet and
Wexford (Pa.) North Allegheny four-
star offensive tackle Joshua Lugg.
The Irish's attempt to repeat its suc-
cess from a season ago has started
off quite well. On the Friday before
the actual on-field workout, Orlando
(Fla.) Bishop Moore three-star defen-
sive end Jonathon MacCollister gave
his verbal commitment to the staff. A
day later, MacCollister was a standout
on the field, showing off impressive
size and agility.
Immediately following the camp,
Winter Park (Fla.) High three-star
wide receiver Jordan Pouncey com-
mitted to the coaching staff at mid-
field of Notre Dame Stadium, becom-
ing the second prospect from Florida
to pledge to the Irish that weekend.
A day following the Invasion, India-
napolis Cathedral four-star running
back Markese Stepp — one of the top
rushers in the 2018 class — gave his
verbal commitment to Notre Dame.
