PLAYER OF THE GAME Penn State wide receiver Chris Godwin was destined for a great afternoon from the game's onset, hauling in a 52-yard touchdown from Trace McSorley on the Lions' opening possession. He finished the day with seven receptions for 117 yards and a touchdown. PLAY OF THE GAMESaquon Barkley only had nine carries on the afternoon, suffering an injury at the game's start, but his 55-yard touchdown burst in the fourth quarter was critical to the Nit- tany Lions' win. Weaving through the heart of the Owls' defense, Barkley gave Penn State a crucial cushion to emerge with the 34-27 win. BEST PASSMcSorley reeled the Owls in, then made them pay. On a second- and-7 at their 48-yard line, the Nittany Lions faked an inside handoff to Andre Robinson, backing out and finding Chris Godwin wide open in a soft zone. McSorley made the easy connection to the middle of the field, and Godwin finished it off for the 52-yard touch- down. WORST PASS Tough to say whether the interception belongs to McSorley, or to his intended target, DaeSean Hamil- ton. Either way, the quarterback's pass on first down late in the third quarter breathed new life into the Owls when Delvon Randall picked it off deep in Penn State territory. BEST RUNBarkley missed most of the first half due to what appeared to be an ankle injury. He returned to form when the Lions needed it most. His 55-yard touchdown run, making three Owls miss badly in the process, lifted Penn State from its precarious 3-point lead into a 34-24 advantage midway through the fourth quarter. BEST CATCHThere's simply no good way to describe Mike Gesicki's 52-yard reception. Leaping above Temple's de- fender, the tight end extended his right arm and simply snagged the ball out of the air, bringing it to his body and squirming all the way to the 8-yard line. WORST DROPThe reputation for questionable ball security caught up to Miles Sanders Saturday afternoon. With his Nittany Lions poised to extend their lead, the true freshman back fum- bled on an inside handoff, giving the Owls the ball. BEST SACKPenn State's second sack of the afternoon came at its most crucial moment. With the Owls driving near midfield, Robert Windsor and Torrence Brown combined to take down Walker deep in the backfield to force a punt. BEST HITTemple linebacker Stephaun Marshall unloaded on McSorley during a designed run in the middle of the field. The durable quarterback popped up from the hit, though.
