the spring practice schedule would have to be altered to cater to the players, but it might be worth it. I am not getting any younger and I would love to see at least one more national title be- cause I am tired of watching the SEC domi- nate football even though I know the reasons why. Raymond Ciarleglio New Haven, Conn. Notre Dame does have study programs abroad, but that's a full commitment. Starting classes in one location in January, moving to another for the spring with a different professor, and then return- ing after spring is not practical. Mr. Ciarleglio, we can't blame you for trying. FROM THE WEBSITE The four-homer performance on May 8 by the Texas Rangers' Josh Hamilton inspired us to ask our BlueandGold. com members what they thought was the greatest perfor- mance ever in a game by a Notre Dame player. We mentioned George Gipp's 480 all-purpose yards in a 27-17-comeback victory over Army in 1920 and Jim Sey- mour's 276 yards receiving versus No. 8 Purdue to start the national title campaign in 1966, but here were a few others among many. Simm: Rocket's 1989 Michigan performance, Tim Brown against Michigan State in 1987 and USC in 1986. Defen- sively … Demetrius DuBose was awfully good against Penn State in the 1992 Snow Bowl. MrJgame: Jimmy Clausen tore Hawaii up in the 2008 Hawaii Bowl. Leppycole: Julius Jones 262 yards rushing at Pitt in 2003. Psdo51: If winning the game doesn't matter, it's hard to overlook Joe Theismann's 526 yards passing against USC in the 1970 game. IrisBob: Ron Powlus' debut against Northwestern in 1994 (18 of 24, 291 yards, four touchdowns). TDs), where he would have broken Gipp's yards per carry record but for a holding call. Also, Jerome Bettis in the Sugar Bowl vs. Florida. Mumster: I will never forget Chris Zorich in the 1991 Or- Mskikos: Reggie Brooks USC '92 (227 yards rushing, 3 really worth it? It creates a culture of resentment, entitlement and selfishness, in our opinion. Is this really why Notre Dame has been los- ing at home to schools such as Syracuse, Navy, UConn, Tulsa and USF, among others? If you need to work that hard for someone, is it BE HEARD! Coachcft: I might have to go with Kevin McDougal in 1993 vs. BC. Ndpalazotto9: Maurice Stovall in 2005 vs. BYU was awe- some with four touchdown receptions. Hemy: A rather unsung yet very effective performance was turned in by Tony Rice in the Fiesta Bowl for ND's last national championship. Rice was 7-of-11 passing for 213 yards and rushed for 75 yards. Risksorter: Paul Hornung versus North Carolina in 1956. Final Score: Hornung 21, North Carolina 14, ND Offense Minus Hornung 0. NDGuyinFL: Man, I feel like a terrible ND fan. Being born in 1987, I wasn't around or remember most of these. JUNE/JULY 2012 12
