UNDER THE DOME Two-time first-team All-American AL ECUYER: 1937-2012 guard/linebacker Al Ecuyer (pronounced Eck-u-way) died April 28 in Metairie, La., after a long battle with Alzheimer's dis- ease. He was 74. Former Irish guard/linebacker Al Ecuyer, a two-time first-team All-American, passed away on April 28 at the age of 74. The following year, he was elected as co-captain with Chuck Puntillo, led the team in tackles again with 88 and was chosen as first-team All-American by United Press and Sporting News. It was Brennan's final season after a 6-4 record and No. 17 finish in the AP poll. Ecuyer played in the Hula Bowl follow- ing his senior campaign and was an 18th- round selection in the 1959 NFL Draft by the New York Giants, but played line- backer in the Canadian Football League from 1959-67. Born in New Orleans, he was a 1959 graduate of the University of Notre Dame with a degree in business. Ecuyer became a vice president of investments with Pru- dential Securities.
