Other previous winners include: Huntley Montgomery (2000), Dominic Inglot (2007-08), Jarmere Jenkins (2009-10), Harrison Richmond (2012) and Ryan Shane (2014). 45 Of the past 48 men's basketball games at home have resulted in wins, heading into the 2016-17 season. The No. 14 Cavaliers pitched 10 shutouts during the 2016 regular season. ◆ Dec. 7, 1939 — The Cavaliers open the sea- son by setting the modern (since 1938) school record for fewest points allowed in a 35-14 win over Bridgewater. The record in the shot clock era of men's basketball (since 1986) is 26 in a 2014 win over Rutgers. ◆ Dec. 22, 1979 — Program legend RALPH SAMPSON posts the first triple-double of his career (and the second in school history) with 16 points, 14 rebounds and 12 blocks in an 84- 60 win over Army. Exactly a week later, he posts UVA's most recent triple-double with 15 points, 22 rebounds and 10 blocks in a 79-58 win over Old Dominion. ◆ Dec. 31, 1984 — Virginia appears in its first bowl game and records a 27-24 win over Purdue in the Peach Bowl. The Cavs trailed by 10 at halftime but did not allow a point in the second half, while the ground game got going on the other side of the ball, — UVA ran for nearly 200 yards after the break. Offensive MVP Howard Perry finished with 114 rushing yards and a touchdown, while defensive MVP Ray Daly picked off Purdue quarterback Jim Everett twice, including on a critical fourth-quarter drive when Purdue was marching for a possible go-ahead score.
