28 ◆ CAVALIER CORNER EVENT RECAPS 40-YEAR MILESTONE CELEBRATION The 6th Annual VAF 40-Year Milestone Celebration was held the weekend of Oct. 14-15 in conjunction with the Virginia football game versus Pittsburgh. The celebration, which honored all VAF members who reached their 40th anniversary for consecutive years of giving in 2015, included a dinner Friday evening at Morven Farms and an on-field recognition at the football game on Saturday. To start the celebration, honorees enjoyed a cocktail hour and were treated to a performance by the Virginia Gentlemen. Afterwards, the formal program opened with Dirk Katstra taking a look back at the scope of Virginia Athlet- ics over the past 40 years, followed by Billy Hunt, a member of this year's class of 40-year donors, who offered the crowd his perspective on the impor tance of giving. Craig Littlepage thanked the honorees for their loyal support, then in- troduced the evening's keynote speaker, head men's basketball coach Tony Bennett. Coach Bennett pro - vided a humorous and thoughtful speech not- ing how grateful he was for longtime donor support and how essential that kind of giving is to the success of programs like his own. Each honoree received a commemorative gift and was recognized on-field during the Pittsburgh game. 2016 MEN'S TENNIS NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP TEAM CELEBRATION On Oct. 22, 2016, Virginia Athletics and the Virginia Athletics Foundation co-hosted a brunch and ring ceremony to honor the Men's Tennis team's 2016 National Championship. The event, held at Darden's Saunders Hall, included tennis alumni, donors, relatives and friends of the program. Fol- lowing the brunch, Jon Oliver provided a welcome and head coach Brian Boland shared special highlights about his team and their remarkable ac- complishments. The program also featured the 2016 season and champion- ship highlight video and entertaining interviews with each championship team member by Scott Beardsley, Dean of the Darden School of Business. At the conclusion of the program, the tennis staff distributed champion- ship rings to the team members, which they were able to wear for their on-field recognition later that afternoon during the UNC vs. UVA football game. 2016 Men's Tennis National Championship Team. VAF GOLF TOURNAMENT 2016 The 12th annual Virginia Athletics Foundation Golf Tournament was held at the Country Club of Virginia's James River Course on Oct. 3. With the hard work of Coley Wortham and Bob Mizell, who encourage so many Richmond area participants, the event was a great success. Following lunch, coaches and members of the UVA Men's and Women's Golf teams introduced themselves and were paired to play with each of the foursomes in a scramble format. Participants enjoyed a beautiful day for golf and a post tournament awards reception. Congratulations to the 18 proximity winners and the winning team BB&T Capital Markets which included Alex Cecil, Wilson Cecil, Elliott Beaulieu, Jake Savage and fourth-year men's golf student-athlete Jimmy Stanger. Proceeds from the tournament directly benefit the Men's and Women's Golf teams. Thank you to everyone who participated in the tournament and supported these UVA Golf programs.
