Mission Statement The Virginia Athletics Foundation, through its fundraising efforts, strives to support a preeminent intercollegiate athletics program at the University of Virginia by providing student- athletes the opportunity to achieve academic and athletic excellence. Over the past few weeks, several of our teams have been in our of- fice in the evenings making "thank you" calls to hundreds of donors as part of our student-athlete thank-a-thons. For some, this is not the most comfortable phone call to make and for others it comes naturally. I have been impressed with the effort and passion each student-athlete has shown as they make their calls or write thank you notes. I have had the benefit of hearing some of these phone conversations. Their words have been filled with genuine gratitude for the opportunities donors have provided them and for the experiences they are having as student-athletes at the University of Virginia. I hope you have received a note, voicemail or phone call from one of our student- athletes over the years and understand how appreciative they are for the generosity of our donors. If not, there are many more teams who will be making calls through- out the year. I have been especially impressed with the three teams that have made calls this week — Baseball, Women's Lacrosse and Men's Lacrosse. Our fundraising activity for the remaining weeks of the year will be focused on reaching our targets as outlined in the All In For Excellence graphic shown below. The Annual Fund is poised to surpass last year's record but we are still far from reaching our 2016 goals for the year. We are working hard to recover from the down- turn between 2009-2011 and the rise of scholarship costs during that same period. In addition to the fundraising results illustrated in the graphic, our donors have also contributed several million dollars in gifts to support facility projects. These efforts will only increase as we move into 2017. Once the final results are complete at the end of 2016, I look forward to sharing our progress with you. The ongoing generosity of our donor base has been amazing and the impact can be seen each day as our student-athletes attend classes, work in the community, train, practice and represent UVA in competition. Thank you! Dirk P. Katstra Executive Director Like us on Facebook www.facebook.com/VirginiaAthleticsFoundation
