UNDER THE DOME NOTRE DAME'S NEW DUDS The Irish will wear new jerseys against Miami this season featuring some not-so-golden domes W BY DAN MURPHY newest twist on the school's tradi- tional blue and gold uniforms this month, which the Irish will wear for one game against Miami at Solider Field on Oct. 6. Athletics director Jack Swarbrick said the one-off threads will become an annual occurrence. The game in Chicago marks the hether you love them or hate them, get used to them. Notre Dame unveiled its fourth year in a row that Notre Dame will play one of its home games away from the South Bend campus in what is known as the Shamrock Series. For the past two years, the home away from home contest has served as a runway for alternative Irish jerseys. The series is scheduled through at least 2016, and Notre Dame plans to continue with the wardrobe changes each year. "The game is now part of some- thing that is going to last and has its own identification as the Shamrock Series," Swarbrick said. "We decided in a very conscious way to take this and use this as the one time each year that we modify our uniforms — to take it and make it a special event, to embrace the notion that we're going to bring an exciting and new oppor- tunity with us when we come to that city." The most noteworthy modifica- tion to the Irish outfit, designed by adidas, is the team's helmet. Navy blue replaces gold on one side of the new headgear to make room for a large leprechaun logo. The helmet, and the rest of the ensemble, received mixed reviews from fans chiming in on social media, but the Notre Dame players resoundingly approved. "I love them," said senior line- backer Manti Te'o, who modeled the new look along with tight end Ty- ler Eifert at a press conference on 8 PRESEASON 2012 There may have been mixed reviews about the Notre Dame uniforms for the Shamrock Series game against Miami at Solider Field in Chicago, but the players, particularly Manti Te'o, love the new look. The pants have a thick blue stripe with the leprechaun logo on the hip and the team gloves also feature a picture of the leprechaun on the palms. The Shamrock Series will move to Dallas Cowboys Stadium in 2013 where the Irish will play Arizona State. Swarbrick said he has picked locations through 2016, but would not announce them until opponents for each venue were set in stone. He did add that the next few years will continue the pattern of bringing the Irish to as many different geographic regions as possible. BLUE & GOLD ILLUSTRATED
