■ WOLFPACK CLUB NEWS Representative Spotlight Roy and Norma Campbell Hometown: Salisbury, N.C. Occupation: Both are retired from PPG Industries' Lexington, N.C., plant. Family: Four children (two sons who are NC State graduates and two daughters), nine grandchil- dren and two great grandchildren. Hobbies/interests: Roy loves going to NC State football games, while Norma enjoys Wolfpack basketball. They have a desig- nated "NC State" room in their house filled with Wolfpack mem- orabilia from Roy's years at NC State until the present. They are also active in the church, com- munity activities and yard work. They keep up their old home in Salisbury, the Ed Weisger home place that is in the National Reg- ister of Historic Places, and they enjoy spending time on the North Carolina coast. Since its founding the Association has pro- vided $900,000 worth of diabetic medi- cal supplies to those affected. Diabetes is one of the nation's most deadly dis- eases, affecting more that 21 million Americans. The CR3 Diabetes Association Roy and Norma Campbell Accomplishments: Roy spent 25 years as head of engineering and maintenance departments at PPG Industries and also had an 18-month assignment to build a fiber glass plant in Taiwan. Roy is an active member of Catawba College's Chiefs Club. Both are Life Members of the NC State Alumni Association and have endowed scholarships to both NC State and Campbell. They are recipients of the Milford Hills Methodist Church Laity Award. How did you become a Wolfpack fan? Roy went to NC State in 1954 to study engineering and play football. He was on the 1954 freshman team, and he graduated in 1959 with a bachelor's in mechanical engineering. He is a natural Wolfpack fan. Norma's older brother, Chandler Eakes, also graduated from NC State, from the School of Forestry in 1964. Why did you decide to get involved with the Wolfpack Club? We wanted to support school athletics and give back to the school. Why should someone that's not a member join the Wolfpack Club? It's a great way to support Wolfpack athletics, and it is a way to easily keep up with all athletics, student athletes and activities at NC State University. Do you have any favorite game-day traditions? Tailgating with friends and family, and going to the Alumni Tent and visiting with friends. WOLFPACK CLUB Who is your favorite all-time student-athlete? For Roy it's Philip Rivers and Torry Holt. Norma is a fan of Dereck Whittenburg and Sidney Lowe. The Rotary Club of West Raleigh, chartered in 1954, is an active service organization that provides volunteers and financial support to a wide range of educational and humanitarian projects. Proceeds from the Golf Classic have supported programs, including Rotary Readers Program at Lacy Elementary School, Wake Tech Scholarship Pro- grams, Stop Hunger Now, Meals on Wheels of Wake County, The Miracle League of the Triangle, Back Pack Buddies Program, NC State Univer- sity Alternative Spring Break Program, Women's Shelter in Pakistan, Honduras Water Quality Project, and Haiti Arti- ficial Limb Project.
