48 ■ THE WOLFPACKER BY MATT CARTER The 2017 football season will be NC State's 125th, and in that time many great players have worn the Wolfpack uniform. The Wolfpacker has made its all-time NC State jersey-number team, honoring one player for each number, 1-99. 1 Cornerback David Amerson (2010-12) As a sophomore, Amerson notched an ACC-record 13 interceptions, which was also the second-highest total in Football Bowl Subdivision history. He returned two of them for touchdowns and after the season won the Jack Tatum Award and was a finalist for the Thorpe Award, both of which are given to college football's best defensive back. Amerson added five more picks as a junior to conclude his collegiate career with 18, the most at NCSU. He cur - rently starts at corner for the Oakland Raiders. 2 — Cornerback Lloyd Harrison (1996-99) Harrison picked off 12 passes at State, which is tied for fourth all time, and broke up 40, third most at NCSU. He was a second-team All-America pick by the Associated Press in 1998 and third-team a year later. Harrison played three years in the NFL. 3 — Receiver Koren Robinson (1999-2000) Robinson's time in Raleigh was limited to two seasons before he turned pro, but he still made a huge impact. He caught 62 passes for 1,061 yards and 13 touchdowns his last season in Raleigh and was named a second-team All-American by Football News and was listed on the third team by the Associated Press. It is the fifth-best single-season total at NC State. He was a first-round draft choice of the Seattle Seahawks in 2001. 4 — Quarterback Jamie Barnette (1996-99) The four-year starter completed 637 of 1,243 passes for 9,461 yards and 59 touchdowns. He is second all time in passing yards and fourth in scoring tosses at NC State. 5 — Running back Ray Robinson (1998-01) Robinson is fifth all time at NC State in rushing yards, with 2,781, and running scores, with 30. He had 10 career 100-yard efforts, tied for sixth most in Pack history. 6 — Quarterback Shane Montgomery (1987-89) Montgomery left NC State as its all-time leading passer at the time, completing 421 of 746 passes for 5,298 yards and 31 scores. He holds the school record for most passing yards in a game (535). Montgomery is now the offensive coordinator at Kent State. 7 — Quarterback/WR Charles Davenport (1987-91) Davenport was one of NC State's most exciting skill players on offense. After starting his career at QB, he was first-team All-ACC as a senior at wideout when he caught 33 passes for 558 yards and four touchdowns. Davenport would then play three seasons in the NFL with the Pittsburgh Steelers. 8 Quarterback Mike Glennon (2009-12) Glennon only started two seasons but still finished his career fourth all time at NC State in passing yards (7,411), third in completions (646) and third in tossing scores (63). He is one of two quarterbacks for the Pack to throw for at least 4,000 yards in a season. HONORING THE GREATEST The Best Players To Wear Each Number At NC State 9 Williams is the best pass rusher in school history, and he will be forever remembered after his No. 9 was honored by the school. Senior defensive end Bradley Chubb became the first player to wear the patch on his uniform commemorating Williams' place in NC State annals. The much-heralded recruit was a first-team All-American by Sports Illustrated in 2005 when he set a school record with 27.5 tackles for loss and 14.5 sacks. He remains the all-time leader at NCSU in sacks (25.5) and tackles for loss (55.5). He also set the record in both categories for a single game when he piled up four sacks and six hits for loss against Southern Miss in 2005. He later equaled the single-game sack record against Maryland, although the TFLs mark was broken by linebacker Nate Irving in 2010 (eight). Williams left school after the 2005 season and became the first-ever ACC player to be picked No. 1 overall in the NFL Draft.
