The story of Cedar Grove has been virtually hidden through the years," Fr. Theodore Hesburgh, CSC, states in his forward about Jim & Jane Gillis's book. Jim also authored the successful book, A Son of Notre Dame. A must read! This book has more Notre Dame history than just the cemetery. The Cemetery Beneath The Golden Dome A historic look at Cedar Grove, the cemetery on the campus of the University of Notre Dame Sophomore Kevin Stepherson, Notre Dame's second-leading receiver last year, is serving a four-game suspension for a violation of team rules, per an Aug. 26 report from WNDU — the university-affiliated television station — NewsCenter 16's Alex Wilcox. The university itself had not released any formal statement about a suspension. When head coach Brian Kelly was asked two days prior to the report whether he would confirm or deny rumors about Stepherson's suspension, he replied he can "neither confirm, nor deny." He maintained that stance two days before the opener as well, and said Stepherson would be in uniform for the Temple opener. If the report proves accurate, Stepherson won't be eligible to return to game action until the contest versus Miami (Ohio) Sept. 30. In 2016, Stepherson enjoyed one of the finest freshman campaigns ever by a Notre Dame receiver, snaring 25 passes for 462 yards (a team-high 18.5 yards catch) and five touchdowns. Only all-time Fighting Irish receivers leader Michael Floyd caught more TD passes as a freshman with seven in 2008. However, since the spring, Stepherson worked primarily with the third unit in practices, if at all. Even though he was suited up for the open practice inside Notre Dame Stadium Aug. 20, he was not inserted into the scrimmage. In August 2016, Stepherson was one of the five Notre Dame players arrested for posses- sion of marijuana, a class B misdemeanor. This June, Stepherson was sentenced to one- year probation. If he stays out of trouble for that one season, the charges will be dropped. When asked about Stepherson's descent, Kelly remained cautious in his wording. "The clearest picture I can give you is the consistent message I've been giving everyone — we're not going to put you in a competitive situation or on the field based on your tal- ent," Kelly said on the importance of taking care of business on and off the field. "… His attention to detail, his focus, all of the traits we require all of our players to have, he's working on and he's getting better. "When he exhibits all of those traits, he will find himself on the field." Report: Kevin Stepherson Suspended For The First Four Games Stepherson hauled in 25 receptions for 462 yards (a team-high 18.5 yards catch) and five touchdowns as a rookie in 2016.
