Ress, though, is recovering from an in- jury that has delayed his return to the pool for NC State in the fall. Sophomore Coleman Stewart was tabbed as the 2017 ACC Freshman of the Year after garnering honorable mention All-America honors in the 100 backstroke. Senior Hen- nessey Stuart is a three-time All-American in the 100 and 200 backstroke races. Among the candidates to take a big step forward, Holloway noted, is sophomore freestyle sprinter Mark McGlaughlin, plus sophomore Auburn transfer Jacob Molacek could be a wild card. He was a gold medalist in the 50 freestyle at the 2016 European Junior Championships. A year earlier, Izzo took home silver in the European Games and bronze at the World Ju- nior Championships in the same event. Izzo had NCSU's best time in the 50 free through the first two meets (20.23 seconds). ■ By The Numbers 3 Consecutive ACC men's swimming titles won by NC State. The Pack has won 27 overall in program history. 6 NC State's ranking in the College Swim Coaches Association of America coaches' poll as of Oct. 25. The Pack was the top-rated team from the ACC. 7 International swimmers from different countries on NC State's roster: Trinidad and Toboago, Swe- den, Denmark, Italy, Israel, Switzerland and Greece. Noting The Pack • The men's swimming season started with a 182- 110 win over Penn State and 179-113 victory over Duke in a tri-meet at the Willis R. Casey Aquatic Center on NCSU's campus Oct. 20. A week later, the Pack rolled to a 216-126 win over Wisconsin in Madison, Wis., in a two-day meet. • NC State had a large presence at the World Uni - versity Games Aug. 19-30 in Taipei, Taiwan. Head coach Braden Holloway was on the coaching staff, and senior Ryan Held and junior Justin Ress were both on the squad. Held and Ress teamed together to win gold in the 400-meter free relay and 400 medley relay. Held also won gold in the 100 free and Ress triumphed in the 100 backstroke.
