MARCH 2018 THE WOLVERINE 75   MICHIGAN FOOTBALL baugh hired Enos to coach wide re- ceivers, and the assistant was in line for a raise from $150,000 to $750,000 if he became a coordinator. However, the former Arkansas offensive co- ordinator who was fired at the end of year along with head coach Bret Bielema joined Saban — a former assistant and head coach at MSU — instead. Harbaugh didn't go into detail when asked about the departure Feb. 7. "You know exactly what trans- pired," Harbaugh said. "He left and went to Alabama." Enos, a longtime college assistant and former head coach at Central Michigan, has 20 years of offensive coaching experience, including 10- plus years of play-calling experience as an offensive coordinator, five of them as head coach at CMU. He spent the past three seasons as the offensive coordinator and quarter- backs coach at Arkansas, where he ran a pro-style attack. Some believed Enos only took the job with Michigan short term to skirt a non-compete between Arkansas and other SEC schools, but the terms of his contract reportedly indicated there would be no such agreement should he be let go. — Chris Balas HARBAUGH HIRES FORMER OSU COORDINATOR AS ANALYST Michigan head coach Jim Har- baugh has added another offensive analyst to his staff, and it's a coach with plenty of experience. Former Ohio State co-offensive coordinator and Minnesota run game coordi- nator Ed Warinner joined the staff Jan. 19, signing a reported two-year deal worth $250,000 per year. He'll also reportedly be eligible for shares of Michigan's staff bonuses for bowl game appearances. Warinner was on Urban Meyer 's first Ohio State staff in 2012 as a co-offensive coordinator/offensive line coach and was the primary play caller in 2015 and 2016. Former In- diana head coach Kevin Wilson re- placed him following the Buckeyes' 31-0 loss to Clemson in the 2016 Col- lege Football Playoff semifinal. "Ed Warinner has been fantastic," Harbaugh said Feb. 7. "I feel great about Ed. I didn't know Ed before, [but] feel like we're becoming best friends. "As good a coach as he is, I plan on this being a long and trusting friendship with Ed Warinner and the Michigan football program. I've been very, very, very impressed with Ed." As an analyst, Warinner isn't al- lowed to do any on-field coaching or off-campus recruiting. He'll be responsible for helping with game planning, scouting and other duties. It's likely, however, that he'll lend a hand to an offensive line that al- lowed 34 sacks last year. His Ohio State lines helped the Buckeyes finish in the top 15 nationally in rushing yardage in each of his five seasons in Columbus, while Minnesota finished third in the Big Ten with 182.4 rush- ing yards per game last year. Warinner was also named the 2014 FootballScoop.com offensive line coach of the year, and his coaching career includes coordinator positions for three record-setting Kansas Jay- hawks teams, including a 2007 squad that averaged 479.8 yards and 42.8 points per game. — Chris Balas MAURICE HURST IS PROJECTED TO BE A FIRST- ROUND NFL DRAFT PICK Former Michigan defensive tackle Maurice Hurst is widely expected to be taken at some point in the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft in April. This season, Hurst tallied 61 tackles, 14.5 stops behind the line of scrim- mage and five sacks. We corralled a number of mock drafts by experts from around the country to see where they expect Hurst to be selected. NFL.com's Daniel Jeremiah on Jan. 19 — No. 19 overall to the Dallas Cowboys "Hurst has an explosive first step and he'd excel playing the three-tech- nique for Rod Marinelli." NFL.com's Lance Zierlein on Jan. 30 — No. 19 overall to the Dallas Cowboys "Hurst to Dallas feels like one of the cleanest fits in this mock. Rod Marinelli wants more rush from the interior, and Hurst fits his scheme and style." NFL.com's Bucky Brooks on Jan. 26 — No. 20 overall to the Detroit Lions "The potential loss of Haloti Ngata, who's due to become a free agent, could leave a crater in the middle of the Lions' defense. Hurst is a blue- collar three-technique with the motor and game to be a disruptive force on the interior." SEC Country's Connor Riley on Feb. 16 — No. 19 overall to the Dallas Cowboys "Hurst might not be drafted this high simply because of his position. But the Cowboys need defensive tackles who can play, and Hurst is one of the best football players in this draft class." ESPN's Todd McShay on Feb. 6 — No. 19 overall to the Dallas Cowboys Ed Warinner coached offensive lines at Ohio State from 2012-16 that finished in the top 15 nationally for rushing yardage in each of his five seasons in Columbus.
