(Notre Dame)* Commitments in bold italics * Picked up an offer between Feb. 14 and March 8 RECRUITING NOTES • Notre Dame received some bad news March 2, when four-star quarter- back Cade McNamara, the first 2019 commit for the Irish, backed off his pledge. In a tweet announcing the decision, McNamara said the reasons for the decommitment would be kept private between his family and the Notre Dame coaching staff. McNamara's recruitment has blown up in recent months, with offers coming from Georgia, Alabama, USC, Michigan and others. According to sources, the Irish will not make an effort to get McNamara back in the class and will move on to other targets. The hierarchy of new quarterback targets is unknown, but Notre Dame did host Rivals250 quarterback Max Duggan for an unofficial visit March 9. • After not landing a four-star offensive line recruit in the 2018 class, the Irish are in a great position to add multiple four-stars in the 2019 cycle. Notre Dame is in the top six for Edina (Minn.) High 2019 offensive tackle Quinn Carroll, along with Ohio State, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Virginia Tech and Penn State. Blue & Gold Illustrated feels the Irish are certainly near the top of that group if not the leader for the nation's No. 6 offensive tackle and No. 33 overall player. Carroll took an unofficial visit to South Bend the weekend of Feb. 17. Along with Carroll, Notre Dame is high up in the mind of Cincinnati Ander- son offensive guard Zeke Correll. The four-star guard visited for the March 3 Junior Day and told BGI during an in-person interview that the Irish and Ohio State are tied at the top of his choices. Correll hopes to return for a spring practice to watch offensive line coach Jeff Quinn in action. Clemson, Penn State and Kentucky are among the other programs pushing hard for Correll. • April figures to be a big month for Notre Dame and programs across the country, with official visits able to occur and more prospects taking spring visits, officially and unofficially. Notre Dame will host two unofficial visitors the first week of April — Min- eral County (Va.) Louisa County four-star linebacker Brandon Smith and Danville (Calif.) San Ramon Valley three-star rover Tristan Sinclair. Both players hold the Irish in high regard, with Smith visiting last June and Sin- clair set to make his first visit to South Bend. — Corey Bodden and David McKinney Reno (Nev.) Damonte Ranch quarterback Cade McNamara, the first 2019 prospect to commit to Notre Dame, backed off his pledge to the Irish March 2.
