"One evaluator gave him high marks for his team interview and praised his blocking [and work in the on-field drills], but the athletic limi- tations could keep Smythe planted in the day-three range." Smythe had an impressive week at the Senior Bowl to begin the new year with three catches for 48 yards and a touchdown. Like Adams, Notre Dame's pro day will be huge for the former Irish tight end to boost his stock leading into the NFL Draft. WR EQUANIMEOUS ST. BROWN At 6-5 and 214 pounds, wide re- ceiver Equanimeous St. Brown will get a hard look from NFL teams. While he may not wind up a first- round pick, he put together a strong performance at the combine during testing to catch the eyes of some. "There's going to be a lot of in- trigue because of his body type and speed," Mayock told NFL.com after day-two testing. At the combine, St. Brown ran a 4.48 40-yard dash. During his junior season, St. Brown caught just 33 passes for 515 yards and four touchdowns, which followed a sophomore campaign of 961 yards and nine touchdowns on 58 receptions. But St. Brown may get somewhat of a pass on the drop in production. "He creates consistent separation, but the ball placement is deplorable," NFL Network analyst Daniel Jere- miah said referring to the accuracy struggles of Irish quarterback Bran- don Wimbush. "He's got quickness at the top of his route and his ability to adjust is outstanding. I put a big grade on him." Not everyone agrees with Jer- emiah's assessment. Some believe St. Brown's inconsistency at times in college could lead to his ultimate draft selection. "A size/speed prospect who has some untapped upside, St. Brown's lack of production last season was surely due in part to Notre Dame's rotation of shaky passers under center and run-heavy approach," Sports Illus- trated noted while ranking St. Brown as the No. 75 prospect in the draft. "But it was also due in part to St. Brown's in- ability to consistently separate against often physically overmatched corners, as well as shaky ball skills. "He flashes the kind of rare athleti- cism for his size to be a star, but has to prove he can be consistent."
