MEN'S TENNIS 17-4 OVERALL, 6-2 BIG TEN A l t h o u g h M i c h i g a n ' s n i n e - match winning streak came to an end March 25 at No. 2 Ohio State, junior Myles Schalet upset the No. 42-ranked singles player in the country (OSU's Kyle Seelig) … Freshman Mattias Siimar earned his first-ever victory while playing in the No. 1 spot when he defeated Cleveland State's Matthew Terry in U-M's 6-1 victory over the Vikings April 1 … U-M was tabbed at No. 12 in the April 10 Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings … Individu- ally, senior Alex Knight checked in at No. 11, while senior Runhao Hua was No. 35 and Siimar made his de- but at No. 124 … Knight and Hua combined for the nation's No. 13 doubles tandem … The postseason begins with the Big Ten Tournament April 27-29 in Iowa City. WOMEN'S TENNIS 13-9 OVERALL, 9-1 BIG TEN Sophomore Chiara Lommer was down a set and 5-2 before reeling off 11 straight games to help clinch Michigan's 5-2 victory at Minnesota March 23 … On March 27, junior Kate Fahey was tabbed as the Big Ten's Athlete of the Week after she enjoyed a 2-0 weekend in the No. 1 singles spot; she took down Minne- sota's Caroline Ryba March 23 and Purdue's Silvia Ambrosio March 25, before teaming up with junior Bri- enne Minor to grab a doubles win against the Boilermakers … U-M's seven-match winning streak came to an end with a 4-3 loss to No. 13 Northwestern April 8 … Head coach Ronni Bernstein notched her 400th career victory following a 4-0 shutout of Maryland April 14 … Michigan closed out its home slate April 15 with a 7-0 defeat of Rutgers on Senior Day … The Wolverines checked in at No. 24 in the ITA's April 10 rankings … Individually, Fahey ranked 29th nationally, while Lommer checked in at No. 90 … The Big Ten Tournament takes place April 26-29 in Minneapolis. MEN'S TRACK AND FIELD Junior sprinter Taylor McLaugh- lin led the way for the Wolverines in the Pac-12 vs. Big Ten Challenge March 23 in Tempe, Ariz., only missing the win at 200 meters by a thousandth of a second … Michigan racked up 91 points to come in first place (ahead of North Carolina's 69 and Duke's 43) at the Battle of the Blues event April 6 in Durham, N.C. … Incredibly, 24 different Wolverines turned in career-best performances on the afternoon … On April 13 at the Texas Invitational, senior thrower Joe Ellis broke his own hammer throw school record with a toss of 232 feet, 11 inches in a win over No. 6-ranked Adam Kelly of Princeton … The Big Ten Outdoor Championships will take place May 11-13 in Blooming- ton, Ind. WOMEN'S TRACK AND FIELD Senior distance specialist Claire Borchers came out on top in the 3,000-meter run at the Pac-12 vs. Big Ten Challenge March 24 in Tempe, Ariz., while senior mid-distance run- ner Jamie Morrissey placed second in the 1,500 meters … Michigan's dis- tance runners swept the individual titles in their four events at the Battle of the Blues competition April 6 in Durham, N.C., but finished second out of three teams behind only Duke … The Big Ten Outdoor Champion- ships are scheduled for May 11-13 in Bloomington, Ind.
